about the course
In this course you will learn concepts of the primary structure of nucleic acids and proteins, as well as concepts of sequence alignment algorithms, you will also learn to handle online bioinformatics tools to download data and do multiple sequence alignment exercises yourself. With these analyzes you will be able to identify high and low identity patterns, in addition to being able to have a consensus sequence for subsequent studies in immunoinformatics, structural bioinformatics.

Unit I: Introduction to alignments: (2 hours) (theoretical)
Biological aspects behind the comparative sequence analysis.
Global and local alignments.
Two-sequence alignments and multiple alignments.
Unit II: Multiple alignment techniques: (2 hours) (theoretical).
Introduction to techniques for calculating multiple sequence alignments.
Classification of techniques for calculating multiple alignments.
Unit III: Multiple alignments workshop: (4 hours) (practical).
Progressive methods for multiple sequence alignment.
Repetitive and cooperative methods for sequence alignment.
Statistical methods for multiple sequence alignment.
Unit IV: Evaluation and Analysis of alignments: (3 hours) (practical).
Editing and evaluating multiple alignments.
Introduction to hidden Markov models and their practical utility for sequence analysis.
Unit V: Multiple alignments of nucleotide sequences. (4 hours) (practical).
Alignment of coding nucleotide sequences.
Reverse translation method.
Codon alignment.
